About Last Night…
September 15th, 2020 was the first full night of HMN Sports broadcasts from local schools in the Fall 2020 athletics season, and we understand that several of our subscribers had difficulty viewing those broadcasts.
This was due to several reasons — the overall issue being the fact that nothing is normal at the moment. As we know you’re aware, the fact that we’re even having a Fall 2020 season here in Michigan is a relatively sudden development. We want to assure you that we worked as diligently as possible to make these broadcasts happen, but the COVID-19 pandemic being what it is, even our best-laid plans have run into some obstacles.
Firstly, we want to apologize to those of you who hoped to see the JV and varsity volleyball matches between Quincy and Reading. Due to capacity limitations, Quincy would not allow our camera operator inside the building, so we were unable to bring those games to you. We instead brought you last night’s Will Carleton varsity match against Litchfield. We know that’s not what Quincy or Reading fans hoped to see, but given the situation, we believed it better to cover another local match rather than simply abandon the timeslot altogether.
Secondly, at the games we were able to cover, we ran into several technical difficulties, mostly having to do with Internet connectivity at local schools. As you can understand, our educational institutions keep pretty tight control over what can and cannot be accessed over their networks. We’ve been working with the local school boards to arrange the necessary access, we’re all on the same page, and the situation is being resolved. However, it does take some time to work out the kinks, and we ran into a few of them last night.
Once again, we apologize for the issues, and we appreciate your patience as we work to resolve them. Had this been any other year, we would have had the time to solve these problems well before the first broadcasts. Unfortunately, we’re being forced to work them out as we go. We promise you that we’re striving to improve in every way possible, and we thank you for your understanding.
